European Commission adopts Brexit “readiness” Communication

On 9th July 2020, the European Commission (EC) adopted a Communication entitled “Getting ready for changes - Communication on readiness at the end of the transition period between the European Union and the United Kingdom.” The Communication gives an overview for national authorities, businesses and citizens of primary areas that will change after the transition period ends on 31st December 2020. Although the EU and the UK are currently negotiating an agreement on a new partnership, there are inevitable “barriers to trade in goods and services and to cross-border mobility and exchanges.” The aim of the EC’s Communication is to prepare authorities, businesses and citizens for the unavoidable changes that will arise on 1st January 2021, after the transition period ends.
