U.S. imposes chemical/biological weapon sanctions on Russia
The U.S. Department of State has determined that Russia violated the Chemical and Biological Weapons Control and Warfare Elimination Act of 1991 by using chemical weapons against its own nationals.
Therefore, effective August 27, 2018, the U.S. imposes the following sanctions against Russia:
1. Foreign Assistance
2. Arms Sales
3. Arms Sales Financing
4. Denial of United States Government Credit or Other Financial Assistance
5. Exports of National Security-Sensitive Goods and Technology
The Department of States has partially waived the application of these sanctions required under Section 307(a) of the Act with respect to foreign assistance (1.), the licensing of defense articles and services (2.), and the licensing of national security-sensitive goods and technology (5.).
